Almost a month ago, I started my spring semester of college. Because my courses are all online, they are accelerated, five weeks long, and jam-packed with information. Sometimes, this is a good thing. Sometimes, though, it is overwhelming. The course that I am currently taking is a bit overwhelming but in the best way. It’s a theology course and it’s all about our purpose here on Earth.
While I was completing an assignment the other day, I got to thinking, “Lord, what am I here for? What is my purpose? How will You use my story?” Well, the answer to that question is so simple, yet profound. As I was flipping through my Bible, I came to a passage of scripture in Colossians. Colossians 1:16 to be exact. It reads, “For in [Jesus] all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through [Jesus] and for [Jesus].” In summation, everything on Earth is His. That includes us. Scripture goes on to say in Ephesians 1:11 that “In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.”
The Lord created us. The Lord chose us. But, for what? Ephesians 2:10 lets us know. It says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” That day, while doing homework, I learned an important lesson. Friends, God has created us for a purpose. We are to glorify Him and make His name known to all of those around us. This is our calling, our purpose, and our reason for being.
Love God and love others. Do it on purpose.
