We are amid a contentious election season. It is in these times that we, as believers, must draw strength from the Lord and His word. Today, as citizens of the United States of America cast our ballots for the 46th president, let us keep our eyes fixed on the King.
Here is a prayer that I have been praying in this season. I invite you to join me in going before the Lord. I hope that this prayer encourages your heart and reminds you of the goodness and the faithfulness of the Lord.
Lord,
You are steady, strong, constant, consistent, and good. No political tension, civil unrest, struggle, or strife can separate us from your love. There is hope in your name. There is joy in your presence. There is truth in every word that you say. So today, Lord, have your way.
Have your way in my convictions, my heart, and my attitudes toward others. Show me how to love across party lines because your focus is not on Earthly kingdoms built by human hands, but on the only Kingdom that truly matters – the Kingdom of Heaven.
Have your way in this nation. Let your will reign above all else. Calm the minds of your people and help us to maintain an eternal perspective. You are for us, with us, and within us. Let your mighty, sovereign hand be all that we see. We know that you are in control and that through you, all things will work together for good.
Have your way in our leaders. Guide their thoughts, actions, and intentions. Guard their hearts. Protect their minds. Give them the strength and ability to lead us well, in a way that honors and glorifies you.Be our strength. Today and every day, You are the source of everlasting hope, continual peace, and joy everlasting. As the days grow darker, may You shine your light brighter and illuminate the path on which we walk as individuals, as a nation, and as Your people. All is not lost to You, Lord. You are a redeemer, a healer, a provider, a sustainer, and a protector. May you continue your work in and through us, uniting and not dividing, drawing us nearer to You with each passing minute.
God, you are enough. You are all that we need. Let us keep our eyes fixed on the promises that you have for each one of us. Let us walk in step with you and not waver in faith.
You are God and You are good. Keep us, sustain us, and guide us in your way everlasting.
Amen
